HANDY JAPAN is an event that aims to show, sell, share and demonstrate
japanese inspired creations. It tries to deconstruct the "arts&crafts" concept
by exploring the performative act of art creation and the crafts
way of manufacturing objects.
For one day (24th May 2008), the gardens of Palácio de
Cristal (Porto, Portugal), will be a stage, an happening, a fair,
a school, a showroom of ideas that search for the combination of
two cultures. We asked the invited artists/creators to produce/show
their work, having in mind a japanese inspiration.
HANDY JAPAN was an invitation from the city
hall to be part of "Japão no Porto" (Japan
at Porto), a commemoration of the 30 years of friendship between
two cities: Porto and Nagasaki. During May 2008, a series of events
take place along the city of Porto. Check the pdf with the program
(portuguese
version only).
